Cyclocross with a Cause

Brian Chatham (Chatto) was a friend of the VOGA Cycle Club and of Ride Creswick. At the 2018 edition of the Brackenbury MTB Challenge, Chatto, his wife Marg and their little dog Archie helped over the 2 days to set up and take down course markings in between marshalling duties on what was an extremely cold weekend. All done with a smile and a can-do attitude that was usually followed with a "right, what's next?".
In June of 2019, Chatto was diagnosed with MND, a terrible disease that cut short an incredible man who had given so much. As a retired school Principal and long-term Captain of Benalla Golf Club, Chatto was a well respected man who had positively impacted the lives of literally thousands of people.
He lost his battle with MND in December 2020.

His youngest son Brendan (Beej) was a young golf professional working in Asia. With a smile as big as his personality, he was the life of any party but he had a softer side. With tongue firmly in his cheek, he loved to rate sunsets and amongst family and friends became the unofficial expert on what made a good sunset. Being around him you couldn't help but smile and have a good time.
Through his golfing connections he had just started fundraising for MND research when he was involved in a tragic car crash.
We miss both these men terribly every day. They are dad and brother to the Ride Creswick family.

MND Victoria is an incredible organisation that supported Chatto & Marg. The provision of equipment, advice, information and access to specialists meant that Chatto (always a proud man) maintained his independance and importantly, his dignity until the very end when MND won the fight it was always going to win.
Because with MND, there currently is no cure and there is only one outcome. The how, why and when of this disease is being studied in an attempt to understand it, but there remains no cure. So until there is a cure, there is care and this is what MND does so very well but they need ongoing support.
Cross4aCause aims to continue what Beej started. We hope you can join us for a night of fun.
