Creswick proudly declares at it's entrance that its the 'Home of Forestry'. Fair enough too - the plantation pine you see on the hills anywhere in Australia was developed here
(and the original still stands in La Gerche gully).
If you gravel grind, you know the fantastic freedom that comes with taking a CX bike into the forests. Left or right? Asphalt or dirt? Doesn't really matter. What about that piece of singletrack? Yeah, why not. There are an infinite amount of options on your CX around Creswick.
Each year sees at least one round of the Dirty Rat CX race come to Creswick.
Since 2019 VOGA has hosted state and national level cyclocross events.
The Dirty Pig & Whistle is also held in Mid-May each year. CX on the saturday afternoon, Gravel riding on the sunday. Close to a 1000 riders turn up each year.
Ride Creswick hosted the first "Depths Of Winter" gravel grind in August 2018. We covered a little over 100km's of country roads and little-known tracks to the north of Creswick, stopping in Talbot for a well earned coffee. It returned in 2019 with a different route that climbed 2 of the more accessible Volcanoes in the area.
The 2020 edition was rudely interrupted by a global pandemic, but it was still completed in smaller, COVID-safe groups. There was another COVID affected edition in 2021.
Will it return? Who knows....
